Protect, Trust, Hope, Persevere

Portrait of affectionate couple under umbrella outside

I am sitting in the quiet stillness of the early morning and as hard as it is to get up at this time, it is my favorite time of day. Time spent reading my favorite book and listening for the still small voice of God. My alarm sounded at 4:30 a.m., as it does each day of the work week, and as I continued to lay in bed, God began talking to me about marriages.

He gave me the word protector and reminded me what he says about marriage in His word.

He reminded me that husbands are to love their wife as they love their own body. Indeed, he created wives with the desire to be cherished by their husband as if they were their husband’s own body. He created wives to be loved by their husband as Christ loves the Church. As Christ loves the Church; there is such beauty and raw passion in that statement. Think about this, say it over and over until it sinks deep into your heart. The love Christ has for the Church is the love a husband ought to have for his wife!

At the same time he created husbands with the desire to be honored and respected by their wife. A wife is to submit to her husband as she submits to the Lord. And as she continues in her relationship with Jesus, He gives her everything she needs to submit, honor and respect her husband, which allows him to step into and continue to grow in his role as leader of their household.

Husbands are the protector of their family just as Christ is the Protector of the Church. Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes and always perseveres.

As Christ loves the Church.

  1. “Just as Christ loves the Church” is indeed a very beautiful, even poetic, statement. I completely agree, Terese. Those words always make me smile 🙂

Shalom with every blessing to you and yours,
